On the 26th May 1982, under the floodlights of De Kuip in Rotterdam, Aston Villa reached the summit of European football. A determined Villa side defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 to lift the European Cup, with Peter Withe scoring the winning goal and Nigel Spink producing a legendary performance in goal after being thrust into action early in the match.
